Can I Replace All My Teeth with Implants?

The loss of teeth can be embarrassing, depressing, and scary. For those dealing with several failing or missing teeth, one of the first questions they have is, “Can I replace All of My Teeth with Implants?

For many patients who qualify, that is a real and exciting possibility.

At Nuvia Dental Implant Center we have helped countless patients restore their smile and regain the health and confidence they deserve. In many cases, this involves full dental implants that replace and restore the form, function and beauty of your entire set of pearly whites.

But are full mouth dental implants the right fit for you?

Although only you and your dentist can definitively answer that question, this guide will help you learn more about what full mouth dental implants are, who might be a good candidate, and what the process entails.

Full Mouth Dental Implants

Unlike individual implants that replace a single failed or missing tooth, full mouth dental implants are used to replace all of your teeth. Depending on your needs, your dentist may recommend a full upper set, lower set, or whole mouth solution.

Through the use of a ‘fixed bridge’ or ‘full arch’, this type of implant can replace an entire row of teeth (upper or lower set), without having to implant individual posts on a ‘per tooth’ basis. Not only does this reduce the cost of replacing your teeth, but it also reduces the time necessary to fully recover and get back to eating all of the foods you enjoy.

Am I a Good Candidate for Full Arch Implants?

Modern dental implants represent the leading edge of dental innovation, offering a permanent, reliable and comfortable replacement for deteriorating or missing teeth. But that doesn’t mean everyone is an ideal candidate.

So what does your dentist look at when making this determination?

  • Your overall medical history
  • Oral health
  • Jaw bone density
  • Medical conditions
  • And more…

Dental implant technology has come a long way. Even candidates formerly told they may not be a good fit for ‘standard’ implants might be pleasantly surprised to learn that they are a good candidate for full arch implants.

Nuvia Dental Implant Center’s unique and innovative approach to dental implants means that most individuals can meet the requirements needed to replace all of their teeth.

I Haven’t Lost All of My Teeth Yet…Are Full Mouth Dental Implants Still an Option?

For many individuals, waiting to lose multiple teeth is an unrealistic and sometimes dangerous strategy. Waiting for further deterioration, tooth decay, or additional tooth loss, can end up hurting both your health and your wallet.

For example, bone loss in your jaw and damage to gums can result in the need for further treatments, such as bone grafts, before qualifying for implants.

If your teeth have been steadily declining in health, you have multiple loose, missing or damaged teeth, or are simply unhappy with your natural set of formerly pearly whites, a full dental implant and restoration procedure may be right for you.

What Does Replacing All of My Teeth With Implants Entail?

What to Expect When Replacing Your Teeth with Implants

Although every patient’s procedure is tailored to their unique circumstances, the following represents a general outline of the steps involved:

  1. Diagnostics: This step involves x-rays to evaluate the proposed location of implanted posts, as well as to assess the health of your jawbone.
  2. Extractions: If necessary, any remaining teeth will be pulled early on in the process in order to allow time for healing.
  3. Implant Procedure: While under local anesthesia (other options may be available), the required number of posts will be implanted into your jaw (typically between 4-6).
  4. Impressions: Impressions of your mouth and/or computer-assisted imagery will be used to create a perfectly matched model for your custom bridge.
  5. Placement of Bridge: Once fabricated, your whole mouth bridges (top and bottom) will be placed over the implanted posts and secured in place.
