WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH BONE FOR

One main requirement for dental implants is bone. Your bone has to be dense enough and there has to be enough of it. This usually comes as a surprise when researching dental implants.

Periodontal disease, witch chin

Tooth loss causes bone loss. Healthy teeth apply constant pressure on the bone. This forces the bone to remain dense and strong.

When teeth go missing, the bone becomes weak and begins to shrink. Over time, the bone can deteriorate so much that it cannot support an implant.

Because dental implants are the next best thing to your natural teeth… the bone needs to be able to support the implants just like your natural teeth.

Don’t let the need for a bone graft discourage you. Advancements in implant technology can address these problems.

Nuvia’s solutions to bone loss.

In a perfect world, you would have a bone graft at the same time you lost your tooth. Then you would have an implant installed after that bone graft healed.

Actually, in a perfect world you wouldn’t have missing teeth and wouldn’t need dental implants.

A bone graft is when the Dental Implant Surgeon needs to add bone to your existing bone. Sometimes a Dental Implant Surgeon will take excess bone from another part of your body and use it.

Dental Implant surgeons also use cadaver bone and bovine bone. Although it sounds morbid… it is a very common practice.

Dental implants have a success rate of 95%. Nuvia Dental Implant Center professionals take measures at every step to ensure success.

Let’s dive into the different kinds of bone grafts. And remember, bone grafts are a very common procedure and are usually done in one sitting.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BONE GRAFTS

1.) Ridge Preservation. A Dental Implant Surgeon uses this technique at the time of tooth extraction.  Adding bone graft material where the root was… in the empty socket of the tooth. The Dental Implant Surgeon also places a membrane to speed up the healing process. After about 4 months, the area is strong enough for an implant.

The ridge preservation is the ideal for single dental implants. The reason it is ideal is that the Dental Implant Surgeon is able to stop bone loss right away. This technique is the most cost-effective and least invasive… of the three different types of bone grafts we are discussing. This technique works best when the tooth loss is caught early on. This could be failing root canals or tooth loss from an accident.

2.) Bone Graft for a thin jaw. This technique works best when adjacent teeth have been missing for an extended period of time. The Dental Implant Surgeon gently pulls the gum back to reveal the jaw bone. Then adds bone to the thin area. Once the jaw bone is thick enough, the surgeon closes the gum. Depending on the situation, the surgeon may wait until the bone graft has healed before placing implants. But, in many cases, implants are placed the same day. Care and a special diet is still required as the implants are not able to sustain full biting force.

The diet usually consists of liquids for a few days then soft food for the next 4 to 6 months. Soft foods are basically anything that can be cut with your finger. This is necessary to allow osseointegration. The process of the implant fusing to the bone, becoming like your natural teeth. If care and a special diet are not followed… The implant could fail because it does not have time to fuse.

This technique is very common. After surgery, there is generally some swelling and minor pain. Patients report wisdom teeth removal as more invasive.

3.) Sinus graft or sinus lift. When top teeth are missing for an extended period of time… the sinus cavity expands. This expansion thins the jawbone where teeth roots would be.

If this is the case. The Dental Implant Surgeon will need to add material and lift the sinus floor. This increases the bone thickness and allows the implants to be stronger.  Which leads to a higher success rate.

This technique is also very common. Although it sounds invasive… recovery usually takes a few days. Swelling is expected, and pain is manageable with over the counter medication.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE BONE LOSS?

Most people with missing teeth will have bone loss. And if you have worn dentures for a time you will also have bone loss. Dentures actually speed up bone loss. If you currently wear dentures or have had missing teeth for longer than a year… you most likely have bone loss. The only way to know for sure is a scan and measurements.

A Nuvia Dental Implant Specialist will be able to take scans and measurements to see what your needs are at your first consultation. State of the art equipment is the only way to get an accurate measurement. And the only way to know what your needs are. Contact us today for a free voucher to cover the cost of the consultation!

This consultation costs $300 dollars in most dental implant centers. But, at Nuvia Dental Implant Center, we offer vouchers to applicable candidates to cover the cost. The reason we do this is that we want you to know the possibilities available. Too many people suffer needlessly when they could get implants and change their life. DENTAL IMPLANTS ADD PRECIOUS YEARS TO YOUR LIFE

See, when teeth get broken or go missing… this affects every aspect of life.

One of the main areas affected is diet. Having broken or missing teeth limits the foods you can eat. As a result of this… nutrition suffers. And when nutrition suffers, lifespan shortens.

We may not think of missing teeth as a major factor. When looked at from a holistic perspective, it is easy to see how missing teeth can affect lifespan.

DENTAL IMPLANT PROCESS

After your consultation with a Nuvia Dental Implant Specialist… you will have a mapped out treatment plan.

This plan will include precision placement for optimal implant success… using the Safesmile Method. The Safesmile Method is lightyears ahead of what other implant facilities are using.  With the Safesmile Method you can rest assured you will get the best placement of your implants.

Before surgery, your Dental Implant Surgeon will tell you exactly how long to fast and what medication to take.

It is important to follow these recommendations. If you arrive and haven’t met the requirements… surgery will be postponed.

Surgery will last anywhere from two to eight hours, depending on how extensive your needs are.

Once surgery is complete, you will need someone to give you a ride home. As you will NOT be able to drive. You will also be on a liquid diet for the first few days, then a soft food diet for four to six months.

This is to ensure osseointegration. This is when the implant successfully fuses to the bone and becomes like your natural teeth roots.

A short four to six months later, and finally it’s time for your smile reveal. You have waited so long for this moment. It will be something you never forget.

It’s more than just a smile

Yes… you will have a beautiful smile. Maybe more beautiful than any smile you have ever had before.
